Ice-Breakers are the new comer’s day! It gives them an opportunity to meet and learn more about current student and alums help them with their questions, and most importantly having a fun time. This spring was made more exciting with more than 10 games where everyone joined together to have fun. Some of the featured games were Human Obstacles, Bumpy Jumpy and Three legged race.

Office of International Studies and Programs of Illinois State University hosts Gala Night every fall which gives an opportunity to people from across the globe to join hands with their Associations and team up to showcase the culture of their country through dance forms or dramatics. This event helps in bringing people closer from their own homeland as well as with multi-nationalities.
Indian Student Association, this time is planning to add all sorts of colors on the platter. There is a wide kaleidoscope of performances that would grab your eyeballs. We are planning to display the dance performances covering the entire era from 60’s till date. It would be surprising to see the transition in dance forms over the years. This indeed is as a result of our ability to adapt to the new dance forms, change in lifestyle and our ability to learn from the international exposure that we are getting for our work.
Adding to the spice, Gala Night ends with a fashion show displaying various cultures.
Gala Night holds a special significance because, for many students, who are graduating this year, this would be the last time they would bond up with their friends over dance and dramatics and also showcase their talent to the masses.
The reasons could be odd and many but the undercover lie the same base, zest to show culture of one’s nation.

The month began with the GARBA celebrations, seeking the divine blessings of Goddess. Now, it’s time to wind it up with DIWALI celebrations.
“DIWALI” means FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS. The five-day Diwali festival is celebrated in INDIA as Christmas in the WEST. Diwali’s popularity and significance could be witnessed by the fact that even President Barack Obama throws “DIWALI” party for Indians in White House.
Leading up to the festival, dozens of special dishes are prepared, houses are cleaned, candles lit, sweets are distributed and, in India, firecrackers are set off in huge celebrations.
For some, Diwali is as much about the “awareness of the inner light,” its literal meaning, as it is the opportunity to ask the God for a fortuitous balance sheet.

Diwali is the time when Indians love to spend quality time with their near and dear ones.
Following the league, INDIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION in association with LINKINS, ISU Dinning center has arranged a Diwali Dinner Party. It’s now, the time to refresh yourself from the mid-terms and spend nice time with your friends over food and celebrations.

It’s the time to take out the traditional attire from your closet and dress up and celebrate DIWALI to relive those special memories of celebrations in INDIA.

After getting warm response for “LATE NIGHT AT BONE” , Indian Student Association really wants to meet you guys for “GARBA” Night.

“GARBA”, is a traditional dance form performed with the Wooden Sticks called as “Dandiya’s” during the nine days of NAVRATI. It lays its foothold from Gujarat, India. People dance on traditional as well as Bollywood songs on beats. It is a high energy dance form.

Both men and women usually wear colorful costumes while performing Garba and dandiya. The girls usually deck up with Chaniya Choli and guys with Kurta Payjama.

Indian Student Association, this time, has planned the “GARBA NIGHT” with the view to seek the Divine blessings of Goddess in studies and work ahead. Also, it is looking forward to have some nice time performing the colorful dance form of India in a very authentic way with professional Garba DJs on floor.

We would be looking forward to see you all in the event in those colorful bright outfits. And, this time, we would make sure that we all go home with another flavor and color from the VIBRANT INDIA.
